How Clint Eastwood Made My Day

The build up of the Super Bowl commercials never ceases to amaze me. I look forward to the anticipation, but I have to say I was let down yet again. But in the vast group of uninspiring brands, one ad shone bright, Chrysler—“imported from Detroit.”  Clint Eastwood’s narrative was inspirational and captivating. It was a diamond in the rough. What was so interesting was its honesty and rawness. It didn’t lead with high impact special effects, or complicated story lines—or even the product for that matter. It pulled on emotional heartstrings of Americans, with a message that everyone, young or old, can connect with and feel good about. It is a message of hope. And it was a commercial that stood out, and stuck with me.

As marketers, we look to find a connection, a way to communicate and build trust. And it just goes to show that sometimes the best ideas are right in front of us, we just need to tell the story in a way that can open eyes, and leave a lasting impression.
