COPY WRITER (CW) (JUNIOR)

The Copy Writer (CW) works under the direction of the Creative Director(CD) or Associate Creative Director (ACD) and in close creative partnership with the Art Director (AD) to conceive, develop and produce effective marketing communications vehicles in support of a core messaging strategy. The CW writes, edits and proofs promotional or publicity copy for print or electronic publications. At the senior level, CWs are responsible for strategic and conceptual development of messages and stories.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Writes collateral and web content, boilerplate and elevator pitches, sales letters, articles, bulletins, speeches, and other related informative, marketing and promotional content in support of a core messaging strategy
  • Develops creative briefs based on Agency Plan, working with Account Management to ensure direction and alignment of strategy are consistent with client’s business needs
  • Develops campaigns for a wide range of clients, working closely with the creative team to determine the best way to present information
  • Establishes and maintains tone based on core messaging strategy, product and medium
  • Develops and adjusts tone of content to target customers level and in their terms so that sales message is more readily received
  • Checks and verifies all the content is factually accurate and complies with codes of advertising practice
  • Reviews advertising trends, consumer surveys, and other data regarding marketing of goods and services to determine the best way to promote products
  • Researches and understands client industries and challenges
  • Conducts interviews with sales, media and marketing representatives to obtain information on product or service selling features and discusses relevant style and length of copy
  • Presents conceptual drafts and ideas to supervisors
  • Edits or rewrites existing copy as necessary, and submits copy for approval by supervisor
  • Concepts names for companies, products and/or services and develops the slogans or tags that appear on promotional materials

Required Experience (Junior):

  • Bachelors in Advertising, Marketing, Communications and/or Journalism
  • Strong command of English language
  • 1-3 years of hands on marketing communications experience

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes alternatives to ensure relevancy of past performance to current requirements
  • Analyzes RFP requirements: identifies gaps and inconsistencies; crafts questions seeking clarification from the government
  • Collaborates with management team to develop past performance proposal strategy, solutions, and themes that support the win strategy
  • Describes clear, measurable benefits to highlight how our performance on similar contracts will produce results for our customer
  • Develops storyboards that present solution concepts and benefits and drive into the proposal key messages in support of the proposal win strategy
  • Interfaces with internal departments and external partners to develop and implement strategies and plans
  • Researches and collaborates with subject matter experts and program managers on the most effective way to present program accomplishments
  • Writes clear, persuasive and articulate proposal sections; translates program accomplishments into easily understandable text; rewrites and/or reviews proposal sections and related proposal documents

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of proposal and or grant writing experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred
  • Creative thinking and design skills
  • Experience with company products, services, competencies, solutions, and offerings
  • Experience with contract managers, account managers and pricing specialists
  • Experience with standard company sales methodologies and supporting tools and applications
  • Good interpersonal and interviewing skills to gather information from personnel
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of how to present complex ideas in a clear, relevant, and compelling style; knowledge of proposal development activities and processes associated with federal government RFPs and grants; and knowledge of effective ways to develop graphics that present complex ideas effectively
  • Must have strong proposal writing skills, excellent analytical skills, effective oral skills for presenting complex ideas to a management team, ability to work under strict deadlines, and ability to work extended hours as necessitated by proposal requirements
